Council's Own Try-It and Badge

A Girl Scout Council's Own Try-It or Badge reflects what is special about a community or resource in a council's geographic region.

New Girl Scout Daisy Patch!

Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta is pleased to announce a new council patch project just for Girl Scout Daisies: "Understanding Disabilities" (Daisies Are Different & Daisies Are Alike) is a companion piece to the Our Own Council's "What If I Couldn't" Try-It, badge and Interest Project. Through a series of hands-on activities, Girl Scout Daisies learn more about disabilities and accessibility. They also learn a little more about their name-sake, Daisy Low, and her hearing disability.

Gone Fishin - Girl Scout Junior Badge

Fishing is the most popular wildlife-related activity in Georgia. From pristine trout streams winding their way through the state parks, to bass fishing on one of the state's reservoirs, Georgia has plenty to offer both the beginning and experienced angler. To earn this badge, choose and complete at least six activities, including the two that are starred (*). Visit the Georgia Wildlife Resources Division Web site to start your search for information on fishing in Georgia. Gone Fishin badges are available for purchase at bothh the Atlanta and Griffin Girl Scout Badge & Sash stores.

Our own councils' 'What if I couldn't?'

Life can be extra challenging for a kid with special needs. Meeting people and making friends can be tough. But kids who use a wheelchair or have lots of health problems want friends just like you do. Some friendly things you might do are to carry the person's books, open a door, or ask him or her to join you and your friends at lunch. Be sure to tell a teacher if you see someone being bullied or teased. But don’t be "overly helpful" when no help is needed! Why? Because just like you, kids with special needs like to be as independent as they can be. As you get to know them, they may help you understand what it's like to be in their shoes. And you'll be helping fill a very special need, one that everybody has — the need for good friends. This is available for Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors and as an Interest Project Patch for Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Amabassadors.

Our Own Council’s “ Georgia On My Mind” Try-It and Badge

One of the “gifts” the former Girl Scouts of Pine Valley Council has brought to Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta is two new Our Own Council awards: the Georgia on My Mind Girl Scout Brownie Try-It and Girl Scout Junior badge. The original awards were created by Girl Scout Troop 511, Fayetteville, Georgia . They have been revised to meet Girl Scouts of the USA ’s guidelines for Our Own Council awards, and may be purchased at all three Girl Scout Badge & Sash stores. The Try-it and badge patches show a portion of the Georgia state flag.

Georgia's Native Peoples Try-It

The Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta's Native Peoples Try-It teaches Girl Scout Brownies about the history, heritage and culture of the indigenous groups of Georgia. They discover how the first people in this area lived, what they believed, how they worked and played, and why they no longer exist in Georgia as independent nations.

Georgia's Native Peoples Junior Girl Scout Badge

We are proud to announce a new Our Own Council’s badge for Girl Scout Juniors: Georgia’s Native People. This badge was created in response to your requests for a companion badge to Our Own Council’s Georgia’s Native People Try-It for Girl Scout Brownies. It challenges girls to explore the history and culture of the Cherokee and Muskogee (Creek) Nations that once populated northwest Georgia.

To earn the Georgia’s Native People Badge, Girl Scout Juniors must complete one required activity plus five additional activities. The badge symbol is an official award and may be worn on the front of the uniform sash or vest. The badges are available for purchase from the Girl Scout Badge & Sash Store.
