On April 30, 2010, Troop 7053 of the Hummingbird Service Unit in Euharlee, Bartow County, planted a dogwood tree at the Euharlee library to complete their Bronze Award requirements. Five girls participated in the project led by Troop Leader, Debi Borgelt. (Posted 5/26)

Troops 8020, 8131 and 8219 all from Cross Plains Service Unit in Whitfield County recently had a visit from Snakes of Georgia, Critter Call Wildlife Removal & Rescue Service". They are certified by the state of Georgia to remove and rescue wildlife. They brought snakes that are found in our area and discussed the markings of the venomous and non-venomous snakes and many other interesting facts. He also had baby alligators and a 5 foot long boa constrictor. It was very interesting and the kids had a great time! I worried that some might be afraid (like me) but they were mostly just fascinated and wanted to hold and pet the animals. - Alicia Vaughn Leader Troop 8131 (Posted 5/14)
  
 
Sarah Gaddis, College Campus Scout leader for Troop 8010 in Cross Plains Service Unit, Whitfield County is on a "May-Mester" Exchange Program to China for the Month of May. A new tree recently planted at the Dalton Service Center was dedicated to the memory and legacy of service of long-time Girl Scout and Boy Scout Volunteer, "MR. JACK" Whitfield. The memorial service was attended by members of both Boy and Girl Scouts as well as others in the communities of Whitfield, Murray, Gordon and Floyd counties. Mr. Jack, a dedicated advocate for both scouting programs and the youth served by them will be forever remembered and appreciated for his committment to the youth of our communities. Rome News Tribune came to our meeting last Thursday to interview one of the Brownies of my troop. Claire Fortenberry of Troop 7243, Seven Hills, presented the community service project to both the Brownies and Daisies and we were thrilled to be able to help her. In an email Claire's mom told me, "I had asked Claire why it was important for Christians to do this kind of thing and she said, "Well, you have to feed them before you tell them about Jesus...because all they can think about is how hungry they are. They couldn't listen to the story about Jesus."
We made Buckets of Hope our March community service project and have asked all the scouts to bring at least one of the food items listed for the project. For more information please visit the web site. And now the whole Service Unit is going to help! (Posted 3/15)

Brownie Troop 28253 presented Carmel Elementary with a new American flag, State of Georgia flag, and Carmel Elementary School flag as a service project paid for with their cookie program money. (Posted 3/15)

Troop 28267 in Woodstock were devestated at the disaster in Haiti and how it affected the orphans, so they wanted to send supplies. This photo shows a third of what they collected. (Posted 3/15)

 
Girls in Troop 7137 from the Seven Hills Service Unit in Floyd County recently participated in a community service activity where they made school boxes (pictured above) for children who were affected by the recent floods in Atlanta. 8013 from the Dalton West Service Unit in Whitfield
County recently used some of their Girl Scout Cookie profits to do a beautification
project at the Dalton Girl Scout Service Center. The girls had fun planting

Girls in various troops from the South Forsyth Service Unit
in Forsyth County recently hosted their first Girl Scout Bronze, Silver and
Gold Award celebration, Girls Scouts' Highest Honors, event honoring
the recipients (pictured above). Sixty-three girls from troops 13839,
13852, 14018, 14100, 14108, 14126, 14207 and 14226 received
their Girl Scout Bronze Award. Seven girls from troops 13844, 14101
and 14255 received their Girl Scout Silver Award and Maura
L. recieved her Girl Scout Gold Award. Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta
staff members, Bebe Joyner and Laura Skinner, and three commissioners from Forsyth
County, Jim Boff, Patrick Bell and Charles Lauginghouse, were also present for

As a part of their Girl Scout Bronze
Award, girls in Troop 2474 from the Dandelion Service
Unit in Cherokee County recently collected over 400 cans of cat and
dog food (pictured above) for the Cherokee Animal Shelter. The girls collected
donations at their school and the top two classrooms that donated the most won
