We all know the Girl Scout Cookie Program is an important facet of Girl Scouts. The program provides needed funds for troop activities and community service projects, as well as equips our girls with skills in marketing, customer service and goal-setting.

It's more than a box of cookies.

It's a lasting investment in our community.

This isn’t a one-shot deal or a half-time snack that’s here and gone. This program is life-changing. This is the stuff of young girls’ dreams and the moments she will cherish for a lifetime. These experiences will prepare her for the life that lies ahead – they will help her to shape herself, her family, her neighbors, her future coworkers, and the strangers she’ll help along the way.

Girl Scouts began selling cookies in the 1920s as a way to learn self-reliance and fund their own activities. Girls and their mothers baked simple sugar cookies, packaged them in wax paper and sold them at neighborhood sales for 25 to 30 cents per dozen. Proceeds were used for troop activities and service projects. Over the years, Girl Scout cookies went from being prepared in home kitchens to commercial bakers with billions of cookies being sold each year by Girl Scouts throughout the country.

Now:

The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the premier entrepreneurial program for girls in the U.S. It teaches girls basic financial literacy skills, including the development of goals and budgets and the implementation of a plan. It also provides valuable business training for girls - from marketing and merchandising to the development of presentation skills and team building. When a girl participates in the Girl Scout Cookie Program, she has a voice in deciding how the troops’ proceeds will be used. Many of today’s successful business women made their first-ever sales presentation while selling Girl Scout Cookies.
