'Oh,
the places you'll go'
By Leka G.
One word all kids
love to hear is VACATION. But where to go? After reading this
article, you’ll know exactly where you want visit!
The first place you
can think about is India. According to The Geography Bee, India
is the second most populous country. Fifth-grader Iain Robins says that India is different from
the United States, and a person that goes there the first time will be surprised. He
says there are animals such as elephants and camels in India.
Now let’s go to the boot of Europe. Mrs.Gopal-Krishnan, the leader of
Troop 24504, says, “Italy is a very lovely, laid-back, relaxing place with excitement and
adventure.” She says that Italy has everything from beaches to
fashion street.
Let’s move down to the southern hemisphere.
New Zealand is a small island above Australia, and according to Mr. Krishnan, husband of
a Girl Scout troop leader, it is exciting yet calm. There’s Mt. Eden, a
dormant volcano that’s turned into a crater with grass and cows.
Well, now here’s
something for those of you who want to travel in the US. Washington D.C.,
our nation’s capitol, has many sights, including the birthplace of our first
president, George Washington. Pooja Dave, a Girl Scout from Troop 24504, says that Mt.Vernon
was so much fun, that she and her family missed their flight! There’s also the White
House, the Smithsonian and the National Archives Center you can visit.
So now that you’ve read
this article, are you just going to stay home and sleep or play video games, or are you going to
get up and go somewhere?
Fashion!!
By Megan B.

Just because
it's time to head back to school doesn’t mean it's time to drag out the corduroy
and the bubble jackets. The weather is still warm out and it's still appropriate
to wear clothes that won’t contrast with the heat and that will cooperate with
your deodorant.
Don’t pack
away those sandals and shorts yet. Wear bright colors and patterns that make
you feel comfortable. Accessories such as bangles and bulky necklaces go great
with a warm weather ensemble. Yes, sunglasses are absolutely necessary. Get
your mom, dust off her credit card and invest in a few summer sale sundresses.
Most importantly, be confident and wear what
makes you happy!
DIY:
The shirt dress
- Take a big t-shirt and fold it in half.
- Cut the sleeves off in a diagonal
motion towards the collar. Cut the collar off.
-
Fold
the shirt in half the other way so you can see straight through where the
sleeves were and pleat the shirt in order to make the sleeve holes smaller.
-
Sew
the pleated sides together. Sew or glue decorations like buttons on top
of stitching.
-
Take
two more shirts and cut them both in half just below the sleeve. Cut them
in half so that they are two large pieces of fabric.
-
Shred
the shirts long ways into strips about one inch wide.
-
Braid
the strips together into three or more long braids. Sew or glue the braids
around the sleeves and the bottom of the dress. Take another braid and use
it as a small belt to decorate the dress.
